When you apply an Advanced set of object rights to a user or group for a particular object, you can enable or disable group and folder inheritance together or individually. On the Advanced Rights pages, these "Respect current security by inheriting rights from parent groups" and "Respect current security by inheriting rights from parent folders" settings serve as powerful tools that allow you to customize inheritance patterns in many ways.
Tip: When modifying inheritance patterns with Advanced rights settings, keep in mind that you can always assign a user a specific set of rights, either by explicitly applying a predefined access level, or by explicitly applying an Advanced setting in which both types of inheritance are disabled.
To take full advantage of inheritance patterns and Advanced rights settings, it is useful to understand not only the types of inheritance that are available, but also the ways in which a user's effective rights are calculated by the APS.
