A plugin is a shared library (DLL on Windows, SO on UNIX) that gives unique functionary to an InfoObject; that is, it effectively creates that type of object. When you install Crystal Enterprise, not all plugins are installed. Rather, the plugin is only installed when it is needed. For example, it is automatically installed when a call to retrieve it is made through the scripting language.
When the plugin is installed on the APS, it is propagated to all other APSs and WCSs in the cluster. This ensures that each APS and WCS will be able to use the plugin.
