Getting started

Before you can use the Crystal Enterprise SDK or the Crystal Enterprise Web Wizard, you must have Crystal Enterprise installed on your computer. For more information on how to install Crystal Enterprise, see the Crystal Enterprise Installation Guide.

What components must be running?

To run a Crystal Enterprise web application, all of your client and server components should be running, including your web server, your Web Component Server, and your APS. After you have installed the Crystal Enterprise system with its default settings, your server components are automatically run as a machine service. Unless you manually turn this service off, the servers will start whenever you turn on your computer. For more information on how to start and stop your servers, see "Managing Servers" in the Crystal Enterprise Administrator's Guide.

Note:    It is possible to have different server components installed on different machines. For example, your Web Component Server may be on a different machine from your web server. If this is the case, you should ensure that the server components that are on other machines are running before trying to use your web application.

Application development environment

You can develop a Crystal Enterprise web client using any text editor or application that supports ASP/CSP scripting (for example, FrontPage or Visual InterDev).

Instead of writing your own CSP pages, you can use the Crystal Enterprise Web Wizard to build a web application for you. The wizard lets you create a custom web application.
